Roots & Shoots celebrates 35 years

This year marks the 35th anniversary of Roots & Shoots, the youth-led conservation program I founded with a group of secondary-school students in Dar es Salaam in 1991. Today the program runs in 70 countries, with active groups working on projects from coral restoration in the Maldives to chimpanzee habitat protection across central Africa. The same conviction that animated us in 1991 still drives the work: every individual matters, every individual has a role to play, every individual makes a difference.
